Sheila Ruble

Sheila Ruble is the author of Fire Pony and Don’t Park on a Pig, as well as the coauthor of Listening to Stones. Several of her poems have been selected for inclusion in regional anthologies of western writers. For several years she taught poetry workshops in rural eastern Montana schools as part of the Writers Voice program.

A longtime resident of the high plains country north of Billings, Montana, Ruble’s adult poetry is rooted in a sense of place in the western landscape and deals with the sometimes harsh realities of attachment, love and loss. Her children's poems are accompanied by whimsical, arresting illustrations and in a lighthearted way explore broad themes of kindness, conflict and the world as seen through the eyes of our animal companions. Fire Pony is her first children’s novel.

Now retired, Ruble volunteered for many years as a 4-H leader and a U.S. Pony Club instructor and also gave private lessons in dressage and dog obedience. She continues to volunteer with Pet Partners, a national organization devoted to providing animal therapy to those in need. An avid amateur photographer as well as a horsewoman, she spends as much time as possible at her cabin in the Absaroka Mountains or exploring the back roads of eastern Montana.

Sheila has been a member-owner since 2019.
