Writing Contest for Young People

   DEADLINE EXTENDED to October 20, 2018!

We think that short stories are awesome. Now's your chance to write one and maybe even see it published. This House of Books is sponsoring a writing contest for children and youth. The winning stories will appear in an anthology we will publish later this year.

Who Can Participate?

All Yellowstone County (Montana) students, grades K–12, are eligible to enter a short story in our writing contest.

How to Enter

Write an original short story of no more than 10 pages, double-spaced in 12 point Times New Roman typeface. Make sure the name of your story (not your name) appears on every page and number your pages.

Include a cover page with your entry. On the cover page,  please include the following:

  • Your name;
  • Current grade level;
  • The title of your short story;
  • Telephone number;
  • Email address;
  • Mailing address; and
  • Your parent or guardian’s name.

Email your original short story as an MS Word document file (.doc) to Julie Schultz at jzutana@yahoo.com by October 15, 2018.

Rules

  • One entry per person.
  • No entry fee.
  • Entries must be original and have never been published.

This contest requires the signature of the child's parent or guardian to signify that work is original and to give consent for the child to enter the contest. You can drop off a& statement to this effect or mail it to us at
