Comics As Commentary

Do you love comics? Do you fail to understand why other people love comics? Either way, join us Monday, September 20th at 6:00pm for a panel discussion of how comics can function as an important tool for social commentary and historical context.

Former Billings resident Robert K. Elder will present his latest book Hemingway in Comics, which enlightens not only Hemingway as a subject but also the times in which he lived. Kevin Kooistra of the Western Heritage Center will talk about Ethel Hays, Billings' own feminist cartoonist of the flapper age. And Dr. Jennifer Lynn will explain how she uses comics and graphic novels in her history classes at MSUB. Together, they will discuss how comics can both reflect and shape public opinion in a unique way.

Masks will be required.
