Author Event: Montana Noir Book Tour

Authors and member-owners Carrie La Seur and Gwen Florio will present stories from the anthology Montana Noir on Saturday evening September 23 between 5:30 and 7:00.

Some people are surprised that Montana has its own volume of noir fiction, but we who live here know Montana has its own dark side. Noir fiction is generally associated with the landscapes of back alleys in big cities, but crime can be anywhere. In fact, noir fiction can trace its roots back to Butte, Montana, and the earliest hardboiled detective stories of Dashiell Hammett.

In noir fiction, we find the protagonist is typically a victim, suspect, or perpetrator, not a detective. These are ice-cold stories based in the life of Montana’s seamier streets and nasty little spider holes on the prairie.

La Seur, author of the acclaimed novel The Home Place, founding Board President of This House of Books, and contributor to this anthology, is well-known as a committed introvert and reluctant public speaker. Take advantage of this opportunity to meet her and hear her read from the heart of this anthology.

Florio is an award-winning author for her books, and her work as a journalist has been nominated (three times) for the Pulitizer Prize. Her novel, Montana, won the Pinckley Prize for Debut Crime Fiction and a High Plains Book Award. Disgraced (2016) is her third novel in the same series. She lives in Missoula.
